The 30th Annual Socan Awards took place Tuesday April 1st, 2019 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel sheratoncentrehotel.guestreservations.com/‎  .  Socan  www.socan.ca/  is a performing rights society that licenses the public performance and communication of the world’s repertoire of copyright-protected musical works in Canada and then distributes royalties to its members and affiliated international societies.  The Socan awards honoured songwriters, composers and music publishers who create and promote some of the most successful song ever released.   Some of the nights honourees included Chad Kroeger of Nickelback the Most-Performed Songwriter in SOCAN history, Ed Robertson of Barenaked Ladies SOCAN Cultural Impact Award for “The Big Bang Theory” theme , the duo Elijah Wood X Jamie Fine received SOCAN Pop Award, Meghan Patrick  were given the SOCAN Country Award,  Jessie Reyez was presented with the SOCAN Breakout Songwriter Award, and received two SOCAN Dance Music Awards for her work with Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa and Sam Smith. and Buffy Sainte-Marie was inducted intoSOCAN’sCanadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.  Rudy Blair Entertainment Media  rudyblairmedia.comwas on the Socan red carpet before the awards were handed out to speak with honourees, presenters and celebrities including broadcaster & host of the CBC television series Exhibitionists https://www.cbc.ca/arts/exhibitionists  and From The Vault   https://www.cbc.ca/mediacentre/program/from-the-vaults  Amanda Parris  https://twitter.com/amanda_parris   on hosting the 30th Annual Socan Awards.

For Anne with an E Best Dramatic Series & Best lead Actress, Drama for Amybeth McNulty.  For Cardinal: Blackfly Season Best Lead Actress & Best Lead Actor Drama Program, Or Limited Series went to Karine Vanasse & Billy Campbell.  Best Comedy Series went to Schitt’s Creek, Best Lead Actress Catherine O’Hara for Schitt’s Creek, Best lead Actor Kim Coates, Bad Blood, Best Motion Picture The Colony, Best Achievement In Direction, Jasmin Mozaffari, Firecrackers, director Deepa Mehta was presented with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Mary Walsh received the Earle Grey Award,  Stephan James was honoured with the Radius Award and the iconic comedy troupe Kids in the Hall received 2019’s Academy Icon Award.
